Per Wiley

Day-care and Babysitter expenses are allowable if incurred so that the taxpayer can be gainfully employed.  Expenses for attending first grade and thereafter are not allowed.

Can you please help me to understand why first grade school expenses are excluded? Thank you very much!

going to school shouldnt be the same as going to day-care.

You dont have to pay to school if you send your child to public school.  Where is the public day-care?

Do you think this credit is just for babysitting and day care? not for preschool either ? not for private school (Kindergarden and 1st grade)? But what if the 1st grader from public school goes to "after the school program" utill 6 pm? is it deductable?

Before/after school care is deductible for under age 12 if it's required for you
to work. Camp and summer care too. Most summer programs are covered.
Private school isn't. Nursery school is, if it is for work.
