Great advice, Nan. Those are all great points, too.
Just wanted to share what I did over the holiday weekend. My wife and I went to stay at some relative's lake cabin for a few days, but with REG, I couldn't afford to take time off of studying. Instead, I studied a half-hour at a time every few hours in a place where I had a lot of desk room, a pair of headphones to tune everybody out, and as few other distractions as possible (For me, that meant studying with my Wiley book MCQs only since I'm prone to start browsing the internet if I have my laptop with me). Then, to keep things interesting for myself and to keep plugged in somewhat with what is going on with my relatives, I would tell them fun facts about things I was learning. For example, I got a lot of laughs / quizzical looks when I let all my relatives know that if you die while intoxicated flying an aircraft, your debts are not discharged! Either way, it worked out pretty well for me, and I think anybody who has family functions that cannot be avoided can still get some study time in.

Well, I usually learn from listening so I took a local CPA review course with a university professor. He uses the Wiley book and helps us by telling us what information is most important to study. I usually study one section at a time and work a bunch of multis for that section. And I ALWAYS read the answer explanations even if I got the question right.
Once I have reviewed all sections I take practice exams using the Wiley software...and it's nice because your results are broken out into the different topics and you can tell which sections you need to work on more.
You just have to breathe, eat and live this stuff. I seriously saw questions every time I closed my eyes and could not keep my mind off this information. |

Dont give up, you might just need a different approach. Also, studying with a dedicated partner is really helpful if u are so luck to find one. I find my competitive nature and discussion greatly improved my understanding when I have a problem.
The only problem: I lost all my friends this last year and my gf and I just broke up this week because I didn't "give her enough attention". She did promise to be supportive at the beginning. We dated for 4yrs but its ok, once I finish with the CPA I can afford buy a new gf. Just kidding, really. Like Mr. Peter Olinto says, "the more miserable you are, the better your chance is at passing."

Inspron,
Sorry to hear about your girlfriend. It's true though. I have friends don't understand why I can't just take a couple hours out of my day to have dinner. Unless they have the same types of goals you have, they will never understand how much dedication this exam needs.
The first time around when I studied for the exam my heart was half in it. I wanted to study, but I also wanted to please my friends and didn't want to miss any social events. But I've learned. If they're not there for you after you pass the exam, then they're not your friends anyway.
