If I take Reg in Jan 2010, is the 2009 numbers going to be tested on it? Also I have the Becker 2009 review books, are those useless or is it still possible to study from those for 2010?

The way I study is to slowly read the Roger Philipp CPA book. Slowly.
Like I read the same thing over and over and over again to try to get it to
sink in. Sometimes I create charts and hang them around my room. I like
writing things down, or anything that's likely to get it embedded in his
brain. Then I do the questions in the Wiley book. Sometimes I'll finish a
chapter and then do the questions in the Wiley book, but I feel that might
be too easy so I instead read like 3 or 4 chapters in Roger's book and then
do the questions in the Wiley book.

Roger's recommendation is not to read the Wiley book as he says there's
too much info they put into it and some of it is never tested on, but uses
the book for the questions.

I'm getting frustrated as I feel I understand most of the material, but can't
get a passing score on any of the MC for the Wiley book. I'm getting into
the high 60s and low 70s, never a 75%.

How did you do on your REG test using Exam Matrix? I am one week out scoring 90's on the MCQ's and not so hot on the Sim's. Are Exam Matrix Sim's a good study tool for the real thing?

How I got 86 in Reg:

I used only Becker, studied over a period of 1.5-2 months for about 100 hours total. Did not use lectures, read the material, did 82% of all MCQ's and supplemental correctly, took notes on everything that I got wrong and had notes on all major mnemonics and etc., I used Becker flashcards - perfect for my daily four hour commute.

It is essential to start going through the book again in detail 3-4 days before the exam - there will always be material that you just glanced over during your first round so make sure you re-read the book before your test.

I also created a spreadsheet that lists each subsection of Becker's questions by chapter and I track my progress on each subsection - that way I always know where I did not work enough.

Using Yaeger HomeStudy (5 Week Plan):

Week 1 & 2:
- Go through all the lectures with intense note-taking (the goal is so that after going through all the lectures, I can only rely on the notes I took instead of flipping through pages of the gigantic book with boring texts)
- After each lecture session, work through ALL the assigned problems, both for the current and the previous sessions, so I can recap on the materials. HOWEVER, for every session completed, add 2, 3 more problems from the UNassigned set of problems to the previous sessions' assignment.
- By the end of the last lecture session, I would have worked out ALL the assigned problems numerous times.

Week 3:
- Reread through the entire note module by module, and concentrate on MCQs (no Sims). Since I would have solved the MCQs multiplie downs during the two previous weeks, I expect to go through this process fairly quickly. Concentrate on the latter session since I would've had least practice on those questions.

Week 4:
- Work on ALL the Sims for each module. I noticed that Sims generally require overall knowledge of the entire subject (REG) in order to be solvable. It's a good way of blending everything together.
- Start on Wiley Software Problems.

Week 5:
- Wiley Software all the way until the night before the Exam
- Day before the Exam, go through all the note/hand-outs (will take good several hours)
- Take the exam & pray for a 75.
