Hi,
I am new to this forum, so together with my introduction
i will go on my problem.
I will be appearing in final examinations for CA Pakistan
and will hopefully be qualifying it this December. My
father currently resides in USA (Texas) and became a
Greencard holder recently. So, my family excluding my dad
have applied for Visa and we would soon be hearing a
positive response.
Coming to the point, my problem is that my dad wants us
to settle in USA. I have heard that one of the most
rewarding accountancy qualification there is CPA, but
unfortunately, state wise requirements differ and that my
qualification i.e. CA from Pakistan would also be of no
help.
My other qualifications are Bachelors in Commerce and I
have been working as a Senior auditor at Ernst and Young
Pakistan for two years (Contract will end on November
2012).
My questions are:
1) Which state would be most suitable considering my
experience and qualification and further credit hours
which i may need to study?
2) I am also planning to do CIA. Will it get me any
exemptions in CPA?
I did a bit of research myself and found out that maybe
Delaware, Colorado and Michigan state would be most
feasible but still i need input from experienced people
here.
I would really appreciate if any of people here can spare
some time to respond to my queries above.
Thanks in anticipation and eagerly waiting for replies.

Hi Nevermore97
I have just started..and I feel that you can still opt for
Texas Board rather than other states. I think you should
opt for the state where you will work.

@ leslie, I have read your email. Looking forward for
your specific responses. Thanks!
@chaitu, Its good to know that you have started CPA too.
I was opting for Delaware, Colororado or Michigan state
because i heard that my present qualifications would
fetch some credit hours there and would result in my
quick eligibility to sit for CPA exams.
At Texas, it might take some extra time which I may
reconsider after some detailed CBA. Although, I would
definitely consider Texas state as suggested by you since
my family would be there and I would most probably be
working there too.
Thanks for replying.

@nevermore Im also a CA and have a 3-yr Bcom degree from India. If your Bachelors is a 4-year degree then this in combination with your CA places you in a good position and to know exact credits that you have; get your credentials evaluated from your State approved agency (best after completing your CA) In my case to get a fair idea I went ahead with Montana(no Bachelor's requirement is specifically stated) and as per the agency I qualify with enough credits and CA+Bcom can be considered equivalent to US Bachelor. So after much deliberation and reading about other experiences on this forum one may conclude that a 3-yr degree can give you some problem though you may have sufficient credits. All the best to you and do keep us all posted on your experiences.
