I just took the exam as well.
I was also surprised at the lack of calculations
required. I had 1 variance question and it was theory
based. Most of the calculation related question seemed to
cover discounted cash flow methods and variable costs. I
also had a lot of IT questions.
The written communication was very straight forward, and
1 of them was not even related to BEC and seems to have
been taking from a FAR exam.
That being said, every exam is different so don't expect
to get the same type of questions I did.
In total I put 85.5 hours of studying in over the course
of 4 weeks. Overall - I felt pretty confident after
leaving the exam.
