That's a very broad, blanket statement for anyone to make so I would have to question the validity of it.

I'm currenty enrolled in accounting courses part time at the local university while working full time. My goal is too eventually land a job with a public accounting firm, take graduate level coursework and sit for the CPA exam. My school splits Intermediate Accounting into 2 parts; I'm enrolled in the 2nd. Our teacher has warned us that on average only 20% of the class will get a "B" or better, and that no public accounting firms will consider hiring a graduate with a lower grade in this particular class. Has anybody heard any truth to this, or could this simply be a scare tactic?

Intermediate II was very difficult when I was an undergrad.  I'm not sure about having a lower grade in just this one class will ruin your chances.  I think it is mostly your overall gpa and then your gpa in accounting courses.  One class is not going to make or break you.

When I was at PwC, we had a 3.2 GPA minimum to even get your foot in the
door. If you went to an Ivy, a 3.2 was ok, non-Ivy it was a 3.5 or better.
One particular class? As an instructor I disagree. But if I was recruiting and
I saw a few grades below B within the major, I'd be concerned especially at
higher levels.

Accounting as far as i am concerned is the best subject that one can ever do. Even if there may be no job out there, you can easily create a niche for your self utilizing all that you learnt in your accounting courses.
