It's true that JCs are less expensive but they are also so popular that when I tried to register, the classes were all full at Santa Monica Comm College.
I like UCLA Extension but the standards are not very high so you'll have to study on your own outside of the class assignments. I recommend studying the accounting courses simultaneously with the Wiley CPA exam books.
The classes you need to take for the CPA exam is listed on UCLA Ex under "Accounting Certificate." I recommend taking an internship to make sure this is really what you want to do. I used to work 80 hours per week during the initial tax season and 60 hours per week for most of the remainder of the year. We revert to 30-40 hours per week in November and December. I love the long hours but most people might not. Good luck.
