yes, but you have to consider the $. some local college kid will spend nothing to get his or her degree while you'll spend $50K+ to go to these "top accounting schools". You'll have the same chance as the local kid when you're in the recruiting process. Ive seen some state school grads beat out BYU kids. My point is that that the top schools will only give you the ability to interview with other offices, with respect to big 4 and GT, BDO of course. Getting the job still boils down to your interview skills.

I am going to a public college and all of the Big 4 recruit from it, as do lots of Fortune 500 companies.  The only advantage to going to an ivy league like Wharton is that it will allow you to get into investment banking.  A second tier state college will not.

I couldn't imagine spending extra time, money, and effort to go to a better school just for an accounting degree of all things.

Better than struggling to get a 55k+ job out of school, and struggling on Top 5 MBA admissions.
