KFan, I'm not sure how you can say that tax work doesn't involve a lot of client contact unless you work in a very large firm.  I've seen client's walk because they never saw their accountant.  I'm not a people person either but in public accouting you won't go far without having people skills especially for client development.  Between client meeting before we start a return, questions during, advice thorugh out the year, new client meetings, client's being audited,  client development, mergers, new business ideas, change of partners, there is not a day that we aren't speaking or meeting with someone.  Phone calls from clients eat up a lot of my day and I would much rather be working and not talking to anyone. In auditing you have more control over  the contact, in tax it seems everyday brings something unplanned to mess up my day.

The tax manager at my company said she didn't talk to clients much.
Maybe it is different at small firms.

Passion? I don't know what to say. People who own businesses are passionate. CEO's are passionate as well.

I think I would describe myself as passionate but more driven. I never had a problem studying for the CPA exam. In fact I would look forward to it everyday. I liked the idea I was learning something and that I was measuring up to my peers and in many cases surpassing them.

When it comes to the job I love the idea of helping a company perform better. That can be using the tax code, cutting costs, or helping improve accuracy and efficiency. As an Accountant we touch everything in business. The opportunity to help a company or firm improve is abundant.

I have to say I have no regrets on my career choice. I meant to be an accountant from day one.

My only passion is for stability.

I think accounting is about as stable as they get anymore...
