I have few questions with payables cutoff. If anyone can provide official guidance, that would be great! However, any reply is welcomed of course.

So lets go through a few scenarios in which a client's fiscal year is the same as the calendar year. I would like to know in what year the invoice should be recorded.

I. A client has an invoice dated 12/31/2011 but hasn't received the goods yet with FOB Shipping terms.

II. Same scenario as item I but the terms are FOB Destination.

III. A client has an invoice dated 01/04/2012. The supplier was late in invoicing the client but the goods were received by the client in 2011.

IV. The client has an invoice for services rendered to them that were evenly provided in December 2011 and January 2012.

So what you guys think on these scenarios?

FOB Shipping Point - Ownership passes when the seller delivers to carrier
FOB Destingation - Ownership passes when the goods arrive at the buyers
1. This question does not indicate if the goods were in transit at 12.31.11.
If the goods had left the shipper and were in transit but had not been received it
tittle would have passed and a payable would be recorded.
2. If the terms are FOB Destination title will not pass until the buyer receives the goods.
In this case the buyer would not record a payable.
3. The buyer would record a payable regardless of the Invoice date.
4.  The client would pro=rate the invoice.

^exactly what he said, and that first question does not
specify the location of the goods. If goods are on the
truck "FOB shipping" (or at delivered to a carrier e.g.
UPS) title has passed to the buyer, and should be
invoiced.

It does not necessarily have to be 'in transit,' just on
the truck. In the first one, they say nothing about the
location of the goods. BS question imho. I saw that a
lot on the AUD section. It's like the only way they can
make it tricky is by using the worst wording possibly to
try to trip you up! It's dumb, but expect it.
