Depends on where you live, I guess. In general things go
along with the overall demographics of the US, at our
national training you saw more diverse groups from the
major urban centers on the coasts, and the least diverse
were probably the group from Salt Lake City.

I'll be the last person to say no discrimination exists,
but I think as a minority the issue might be more along the
lines of making it to manager and beyond, and not so much
getting in as an associate.

This is sort of an old thread but I wanted to give m 2 cents....NO, you should NOT avoid the accounting field just because you are Asian...UNLESS you live in a small prejudice town. I'm Asian living in a diverse, but small town, in Wisconsin and there are plenty of opportunities for Asians. So go for the opportunity, but again, if you live in small prejudice town, then I suggest you to move elsewhere. Hope this helps.

Being Asian is not a detriment at all to succeed in public accounting.
Some of the top performing Seniors and Managers that I've met have
been Asian.

I think some of that reputation (not minority-friendly) is owed to thefact
that many Asian students are foreign, and are still grasping the
itricacies of the English language.

That can hinder an applicant due to the increasing importance of
interpersonal communication in accounting.

In other words, be somewhat outgoing/energetic/friendly, do well in
school, and have a good personality, and you'll do fine.

I'm pretty tired of your constant negativity. If you hate
accounting so much, find a different job. Whining about it
does not change anything.

Don't feed the trolls :)
