gm_Simon: I hope the same happens for me, here's where I'm at...

Passed 4 parts and ethics exam 2007

6/2/09 - Attest & General experience signed and sent to CBA by partner (pathway 2)

6/3/09 - Sent application package with $250 check (general app., live scan copy and criminal background)

----Crossing my fingers this is a fast process----

Everyone at my work told me to expect 5 to 6 months before I'm finally licensed, however, I'm noticing the last couple posts where people have been going through the process faster.

I was kinda shocked myself that the process was so quick. My biggest problem with the whole process might be the fact that the wall certificate is so big. With the frame, it's too big to put in my office. So I just left it at my mom's house. :)

MsCPA: In California, you may get licensed as a "General" CPA, i.e., without attest experience. This requires either one or two years of General accounting experience under a licensed CPA (one year if you have 150hrs of education). I recently did general accounting (no attest) for a small CPA firm and was licensed after one year experience.

onecpachick: By any chance were your ex-supervisors licensed at the time you worked for them?

Yeah, it's tough to change jobs now, I would work on some added certifications in the meantime, such as EA (tax), and ASA or NAVCA (valuation) to make yourself more marketable when the time comes.

calvol - I doubt it but I think at this point I will have to work with what I have.  I am not familiar with ASA or NAVCA...do you care to expand more?  thanks again..

Yes, the ASA sponsors a certificate for business valuation (BV), and is the most widely recognized. There are four 4-day courses with exams, and a project, and takes about 18-24months to complete.

The NAVCA is a similar BV certification, and takes much less time to complete, one five hour exam, and a project. You must be a CPA in your state for this cert.

I'm doing the ASA and have one more course to finish. I do about 50% valuations and 50% general accounting. No tax.
