Oh don't get me wrong...I am looking. It just does not seem like now is quite the right time. I know my life sucks (which is work) and I know the numbers too. I just don't want to be running away and run into something else just as bad. Know what I mean? I plan on looking harder after April. Hopefully with 4.5 years someone will have something in a Manager role. If not I think I am going to stick it out until I make Manager at big 4. At least at my big 4 they preach work life balance. work = life and the equation is balanced. Keep in mind these hours are billable...I billed 2200 hours last year. On the whole, I greatly agree with you.

Ive been job browsing and there are a lot more postings looking for people with 3+ years of experience than you may think.  If you're a senior in a big 4, you're basically doing manager work outside (I mean you would know this better than me, lol, Im just a lowly associate.)  Especially if you just bought a house and you dont have another place lined up.... stick it out for a few more months.  You're free to go as soon as you land something, but don't leave the paycheck until you've found something else.

BTW, as a lowly associate, I admire you for making it that far in a Big4 and putting up with the Big4 culture for so long.  I have no doubt that you have a lot of experience, technical and just soft skills, to offer and there will be other employers out there who will appreciate you and treat you better.  You can do it!  Best of luck!

Thank you for the pep-talk. I guess my biggest issue with the big 4 is that the abused seem to become the abuser. That is not something I want. I do not want to be taking advantage of an associate just because "its their turn." I hate that, it is the antithesis of who I am. As far as making it as far as I have in the big 4 ... it is more out of necessity than anything else. I felt like I couldn't leave until I made Senior. Once I did make senior the enconomy tanked. Hopefully things are starting to turn around in the economy and I will get out soon. Meanwhile, I wish you the best.

I second TagLinkVTcheeks, are you sure I can't convince you to transfer to my office/practice group/team?
