lelik and 007CPA, you both need to look at both sides of the argument...
I now work at a Big4, but for 8 months prior to that I worked for the Government. There are many types of people, I for one, am someone who runs on efficiency, therefore the Big4 "lifestyle" does not bother me. There are other types of people who are completely inefficient, but they have fun doing it.
Take my roommate for example, if he needed to buy a useful item, perhaps an iron to press his shirts, he would drive to K-Mart (at 5:15 PM when he gets done work at Government), walk around, find his iron (without doing any research **pretty box art**) walk around a little more, pay for it (typically more than online e-tailers like amazon.com) and pay tax, and think how great this new iron is and be COMPLETELY happy.
Now there is me for example, if I needed to buy a useful item, perhaps an iron as well, I would get off work at 7:30PM (man that was a rough day at Big4, building a phenomenal resume) drive home, and walk in the front door. Oh, my new iron is here. You see, I am efficient, government people are not, they don't have to be because they work "37.5" hours a week. Who even measures hours in .50 intervals? I used resources to make a selection on amazon.com, i.e. hundreds of reviews, selected an iron, more than likely paid less than anywhere else, had it shipped for free (i was smart and bought a year of amazon prime and it gives 2 day free shipping), AND did not pay any sales tax AND did not waste my time walking around a store with a bunch of blue-collar workers...
MANY PEOPLE will agree with me and MORE PEOPLE will disagree with me, typically, most people will group themselves one way or another, but all in all, everyone has their own way that they want to do stuff, mine is just the right way ;)

And now here is me! Work in industry til 5pm never a second over and open my box at home with my iron in it. Oh and the iron was bought online super cheap during working hours. Oh that's right I am at work from 9-5, but my work load keeps me busy for about 2-3 hours a day (Got to love no time sheets). The rest of the time I am doing things I would normally have to do on the weekend, i.e. paying home bills... And the best part is my bosses think I am overloaded with work.... It is all about time management and efficiency. My coworkers struggle with the same work load that barely keeps me busy!
Life is good as an underworked overpaid CPA (Glorified Bookkeeper making $$$$)!!!

tb7025, I had the same experience before (now, it's kind of fluctuates). I have to admit that I have been looking for a job that would keep me busy all 8 hours, but no luck. :-)

I hear that! I must say I do find myself bored at times more so in the summer. Thankfully the controller never knows who is in or out. Nothing like a 2-3 lunch at the local pub.
I have little kids so this job works great for me now. I am thinking in the future I will find a more challengin job that pays even more.

tb7025, my pay increases, but the work load seems to remain about the same (after the initial period of adjustment and learning). More challenging jobs end up boring after a couple of years. :-) So, I try to find challenges outside of my job.
