First I like to congratulate you on achieving a goal that so many are still working hard to achieve.

Please don't give up because you have come so far. I have a poem on my wall that I read each day by David Viscott that says, "To succeed takes time and prolonged effort in the face of unfriendly odds."  As he writes in the poem, "winners refused to give up on themselves. With their backs pressed to the wall and no way out, these champions scratched and clawed their way out of the abyss. However, they could have just quit which is what most people do. Instead of fighting back hard, they just give up when the going gets rougher than rough. Remember, winning in life is little more than outlasting the losing."

You keep getting out there and keep looking. Don't you dare give up now. This is coming from someone that is faced with odds so stacked against me that I refuse to be defeated. 6 years ago I graduated with a Bachelors of Science. Since my graduation, I've haven't been able to find a full-time job and I went from volunteering at the Mayor's office of Community Service to stocking shelves in Supermarkets and Walmart's making only $5 per store (3 stores a week on average). I can't afford to live on my own right now and live at home with my mother. I repay her the best way I can. Now, I'm an assistant manager/tax accountant working towards my CPA. Work is not year round nor is it full time. But, it is something and beats stocking shelves.  The opportunities that I have learned in the past 3 years has taken me beyond my wildest imagination. I've never worked for a big four and most likely never will. I don't know where life is taking me right now but all I know is I'm fighting to become a CPA when the odds against me are trying so hard to keep me from become one. I've come to far to turn back and giving up is not an option for me. I've even started my own tax accounting company which is slow but I've haven't invested the time needed for it to flourish. But, I'm right there and I have it in my craps. I don't plan on being employeed by someone for my entire life. My calling is self-employment and now its just a matter of me gaining the experience and license to be able to grow my business.

I hope my story gives you the encouragement to keep fighting. There are people out there worse off than me and you. So don't quit. Take it from someone that has all the reason to quit but has not and will not.

Thanks for the much needed encouragement. Have a great day.

Sorry this reply is so late. No I took a job at Walmart. After I was there for about 3 months I saw a temp to perm job in an industry that where I had 13 years experience.

The recruiter asked me if I could tell them anything that would separate me from any other candidate. I said yes, I'm a CPA and I have 13 years of experience in that industry. I was hired the next day.

I'm now permanent. It's a great great company and I make about $5 to $10k more per year than I ever made. I absolutely love it. I'm hourly for the record. Which is pretty darn nice since we get paid weekly and overtime starts after 37.5 hours. There's overtime every week.

For the record I was finally able to get my license but I had an 8 month search to hunt down some one who could sign the application. Thank God for friends.

If you are unemployed hang in there and keep trying. Don't fear taking a survival job. I think that contributed as well.

I agree with Kristo. The economic recession is a big pain in the ass for most people these days. According to a brand new report, 40 percent of working Americans are living paycheck to paycheck, balancing expenditures to make do. And that statistic has been declining since 2008, as high as it is. Resource for this article: 500 Personal Loan that I can Pay Back Over Time
