Start developing some speaking and writing skills outside of school. Write a report or a study on some niche you are interested in and develop a talk on the same subject. Send letters to the local civic organization letting them know you are available as a speaker. Let the local paper know you can give them a fresh young look at some aspect of the topic you specialize in.

Those are the basic skills of a "Rainmaker." You get started on that in the real world before you finish school and the recruiters will be getting calls from the hiring managers to "Get Kait in for an interview."

Anyone having trouble finding audit experience and jobs? I hear KPMG laid off 20% of it's auditors..and job market is tight.

I'm a new CPA as of Sept 2007 with 3 years tax experience, but not audit. Nevertheless, I'm having trouble finding a tax position, much less an audit position in Chicago. Anyone have any thoughts?

WOw, the job market is getting that tight now. I think there are way too many accountants. It seems in colleges, accounting is like the new "in" major. I'd hate to see how it will turn out in the future when there are way too many people in the field.
