I'm getting ready for my attack on the FAR exam with Becker. I have my NTS and I'm thinking I'll take the exam on July 3rd. I just don't think I'll be ready come the end of May.
I've read this entire thread today and it seems like the general consensus is that 2.5 months is too much time to study for this exam. I was planning on starting my study plan this Sunday (4/18) but now I'm thinking that I'll start on May 1st.
I'm planning on spending 5 days per chapter with one day for review of chapters 1-3 before moving on to FAR 4. After FAR 6 I'll spend one day reviewing FAR 4-6 and another day reviewing FAR 1-3 before going on to FAR 7. Once I've finished FAR 9 I'll begin my final review which will last 15 days.
This gives me 63 days to study (9 weeks). I work full time in tax so I'm assuming that I'll have time during my work day to study after the 4/15 deadline. I'm hoping for 3-4 hours during the week with 6-8 hours each on Saturday and Sunday. Using the lower of my estimated weekday & weekend hours this would give me 243 hours of study. That would surpass my CPA exam study high out of the water by more then 60 hours (I spent about 180 on reg).
Does this sound like I'm setting myself up for burn out? I know that something will come up that will throw me off track so I'd rather have a cushion in my study plan. Maybe I should spend 4 days/chapter that way I won't get thrown off due to a work project or some other unforeseen event.
It seems as though with the amount of material that is in this exam that giving yourself too much time to study can hurt more then it can help. Should I shoot for 2 chapters/week like Becker suggests or does my plan sound reasonable?
Thanks for any advice!
