CharliePapaAlfa and kj_nyc, thanks a lot for your inputs. I am already a Chartered Accountant from India and been studying CPA for an add-on qualification.

I would have no issues in applying for licensure, however, just trying to see what's the best course of action I can go for which does not create any issues in future as I won't be working here atleast for now.

Hey all,

I am jumping in middle of this post, since the same situation applies to me too. I have done my CPA in 2007 from Colarado state and i live in NJ. I never gave ethics exam because of some unavoidable situation but now i have started looking for a job and thought of getting the license.  I am trying to find answer to the few questions, would appreciate if you all could help me in some way:

1) The reason for giving CPA exam from CO state was definitely that they recognise CA qualification as well as they accept the experience which we have from foreign country.  So, i am confused that should i give ethics exam from CO state and then transfer the license or should i directly take ethics exam from NJ state?

2) Since i cleared CPA exam in 2007 and now its 2009, will it have any impact on getting license now?

You should probably finish applying for the license in Colorado and take Colorado's ethics exam. Transferring your license is easy once you get it in the first state.

Hey all,

I just wanted to update for everyone who wants to get NJ license and have given exams from CO.

I spoke to NJ state board and they said even if we get CO state license but to get it transferred to NJ state and get a NJ state license, we still need to have one year of experience under a CPA (NOT CA in india).

So, its better to get the grades transferred from CO to NJ and get one year of experience, to get an Active NJ state CPA license.

NOTE: You dont need to give ethics exam to get NJ state license.

Hope this helps. And if someone has a different experience and feels my information is wrong, please let me know.
