To me, the hardest part during the exam was waiting for the results. Now, the hardest part is waiting for the Certificate. At least when I was in testing mode, my mind had to get off the wait because I had to study for the next section. Waiting for the scores for the last one was the worst!

For me in order:

1. BEC

2. FAR

3. REG

4. AUD

BEC was just a killer since it seemed so easy but you always got questiosn out of the blue and I personally think the becker materials for BEC (IT Section) aren't that great.

The hardest part is waiting for the score on the last section.  At least I had another set of review books to keep me occupied while waiting for the results on the first three sections.

The answer is:

It depends completely on your experience. If you are from outside the country, REG will probably be the hardest for you. If you are a tax guy inside the US, REG will probably be the easiest for you. If you never took an audit class and aren't an auditor, AUD is tough. If you're an auditor, AUD is a cakewalk. If you went to an accredited 4 year university and took Cost Acct, Acct Information Systems, and Econ classes, BEC should be a breeze. And if you enjoyed your Acct 200,201,300, and 301 courses (and especially if you took Government Acct or Adv.Acct) then FAR won't be as bad as everyone says it is.

That being said, I thought REG was by far the hardest of the 3 I've taken (and I'm almost done studying for AUD as well). I'm an auditor, and I hate taxes.

So for me, it goes REG FAR AUD BEC.

But like I said, it's ALL about what your experience is in. Don't take what other people say about certain tests being impossible too seriously, maybe they have limited background in that field.

I agree with this including the order of hardness.  Having never worked (I got my bachelors and qualified under 120 in NY but then went on for my masters and passed at the same time.)

We had only one class in Tax and no corporate tax at all at the undergrad level and I found it to be strict memorization and I have no idea how I did well enough on the SIMS to ever pass this exam.  I took it twice and both times when I got to the SIMS, I stared at them blankly.

FAR was pretty hard especially governmental accounting.  I didn't really get much on pensions at all either time which was pretty lucky but overall if you understood accounting from your undergrad, you should grasp enough of this to be able to follow through and pass.

Even with an awful professor, auditing is just not that hard.

BEC is why my name is what it is, no study required.  At least for me, but I was an MIS major and an econ minor on top of my accounting.  So take that for what its worth.  Loved BEC, actually enjoyed taking the test.

And I agree... waiting for scores is the hardest part by far.  I think I spent more time on forums and nasba than I did studying for these tests.
