Hi,

I recently passed my CPA exams from the CO Board. I am now looking for a job which is going to be only entry level as I do  not have any US experience.

My question is regarding the certification rules. Do we have to work with a public accounting firm  or is any experience under a actively licensed CPA acceptable.?I mean what if I get a job in a company(other than a public accounting firm)  under a CPA, is that acceptable and counted as relevant work experience?

Please share your thoughts.

Sanjan

Hi Sanjan,

Sorry for the delayed reply. I only checked your post today.

I would highly recommend public accounting experience - audit, tax or internal audit.

Make sure your future supervisior is an active CPA and is willing to sign off your experience.

I only have Industry experience and I am having a tough time trying to get my supervsior to sign off my experience. The CO licensure form is more tailored for public accounting experience.

Cheers,

Arun

I was on the phone with the Colorado board of Accountancy. YOu cannot apply for license under 4.1.c if you do not work for external client even though you for for an entity. You must have external client and I dont know what will be that position in corporation level

Rule 4.1.d must require you and your employer to sign agreement upon assignment of the work and have to be approved by the board first.

thank you work for 1800 hours of qualified experence

than you apply for license

If you are from foreign country just give the exams from the state of colorado and look for the other states where your job match with that state requirement
