The simulation (6 tabs/problems) is worth 40% of the overall grade. You must do well on the simulations in order to pass the exam. One of the six tabs is purely research; you will be given a question and you will have to find the applicable guidance that answers the question in the IRC.
The other five of the six simulations are problems that require calculations; sometimes you will complete forms based on information provided to you. You will not be able to show your work because you will either have to enter a number in a cell that you calculated on the scratch piece of paper, or you will choose from a list of options.
Unfortunately, sims are hit-and-miss; so it is best to be well-versed in all of the taxation areas (rarely a sim on B-Law, Treasury Circular 230, or SEC) so that you can tackle anything they throw at you.
