Hi all.
I'm most likely going to be working at a big four firm's second largest location in the US. I've talked to a lot of people who said that even with work-from-home/flexible hours, they still need to be in the office at midnight, etc. during busy season.
I don't necessarily mind this, but since I plan to live outside the city and need to allow for commute time home, I was wondering if getting home at a time such that you'll have to wake up in less than eight hours is a regular thing. If so, does anyone have any advice for this?
Again, it's not so much a commitment thing as much as that I know I'm going to be short of 100% if I'm short on sleep.
Thanks!

It depends on your line of service, clients, etc. how much you are going to work. No one on here can tell you how long YOU will have to work. And don't always listen to what you hear. Most people inflate the amount of time they work when they tell others.
Also, if you don't get 8 hours of sleep the best advice I can give you is deal with it. No one is going to feel sorry for you at work since they are all in the same boat too. Just do your best, that's all you can do. There's not a magic potion that's going to allow you to only sleep 4 hours and still be "100%"... unless you have a prescription for it.

In 3 years working at 2 different Big 4, I had to sleep
less than 8 hours because of work 20 times, at most.
Relax, you'll be fine.
Also, realize that the bottom line is, "do you do good
work?" End of story. If your seniors can count on you
when it matters, no one is going to remember or care about
all those times you rolled in at 10am or even 10:30 after
staying past midnight.

acaden, good advice!
I would say that your schedule really depends on your
engagement/team. During the busy season, my guess is that
you will end up working approximately 60-65 hours per week,
which basically means from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. during the
weekdays plus 5 hours or so during the weekend. I
personally do not like "pulling all-nighters" because you
are not effective the next day. I would argue that it is in
everybody's best interest to get at least 8 hours of sleep.
