Yes, and yes, the full amount.
Though repaying had nothing to do with leaving before two years. I had to repay because I left within one year of receiving my bonus payment.
Read the "fine print" (actually not fine print, but most of us probably ignore it) on the forms you signed when you claimed your CPA bonus. I am willing to bet that all Big4s have a line in there about having to repay the full amount of the bonus if you leave the firm within a year. If you get fired/"let go"... they might not want to add insult to injury.
That might be what the deal was with me, I was fired.
I know when all the firings and layoffs were going on in
2009 I saw a lot of websites advising us to not pay back
the bonus if we were involuntarily discharged, even if they
asked us to.
