Hey, does anyone know if work experience has to be obtained before passing the CPA exam?   Can it be obtained after passing the exam.

Could you tell me, if you are not sure whether or not you  have met the experience requirement, is it okay to go ahead and apply and be rejected....and then re-apply at a later date after obtaining more experience?    Or is it better to wait and make sure you have enough?

Thanks fo your help.

Most states don't require that you have to have the work experience before you take the exam. It is just a requirement you need to meet before you can get the license. So you can still take the CPA exam, but would have to work and meet the experience criteria of that particular state and then apply to get the license.

I think not, but you'd want to check the rules of your particular state.  I do know that some states require you apply for your license within a specific period of obtaining your experience (you can't get your experience, spend the next 10 years doing non-accounting stuff, and then apply for the license).
