Dear friends,

Is there anyone can tell me that any state does not need education requirement (eligibility) of accounting for CPA exam ? Can I get certificate and/or license after my passing the CPA exam if I am eligible for the CPA exam ?

All state jurisdiction requires some sort of Accounting education to be eligible to sit for the CPA exam (varies anywhere from 21 - 48+  semester units).  Though none of the state requires a candidate to major in Accounting, the Accounting education requirement is very strict.  Most state even require units to be in certain subject like Taxation, Auditing etc.

Also CPA exam is only part of the process.  Most state also require work experience in Accounting to be eligible to get a CPA certificate.

Hope that helps.

Hi, CPAChess,

Thank you very much for your advice. However, following message is found for the state of Maine (ME).

Quote

EDUCATION

Initial (and transfer) applicants must:
•Be of good character and reputation; and
•Earned at least a baccalaureate or higher degree conferred by a college or university acceptable to the Board.

NOTE: All candidates shall be required to meet the 150 semester hour educational requirement to obtain a CPA License in the State of Maine.

Educational requirements must be met within 120 days following the actual date the candidate took his/her first test section.

Official transcripts and/or Certificate of Enrollment must be submitted to CPA Examination Services at the time of application.

Candidates with foreign educational credentials must have their credentials evaluated by Foreign Academic Credential Services, Inc. Completed evaluations must be received by CPA Examination at the time of application.
Candidates are able to apply for one or more section(s) of the examination at a time. However, candidates are advised to only apply for a section of the examination unless they are ready to take it within the next six (6) months.

Does that mean accounting education is not required as long as 150 semester hour education is met ? Your help will be much appreciated !
