I have been working for an Financial Services company in Canada as an Intermediate Accountant for over a year now. My direct supervisor (controller) is a licensed CPA. I was wondering if my experience would count because a friend of mine has been working with a bank as a financial analyst and he was granted a work experience. He did his CPA through state of Illinois which I believe is stricter than Colorado. Anybody know anything about it?

Hey,

Did you find out if Canadian experience counts in Colorado. I have two years of experience in audit. Also, did you take the ethics exam yet? Any advice if you took it.

Thanks!!!!!!!

Your audit experience counts as long as its under an active CPA or Canadian chartered accountant.

I meet all requirement of 4.1.C,

They denied my application after holding for four months and when argue with them they keep on changing the reason of denial and still they didn’t give me some valid reason.

First Reason was “I did not work in the company where I gain CPA equivalent experience and where my supervisor CPA singed 8000 hours of work experience”

When my supervisor said DORA this is totally untrue, they changed the reason saying that "your application was denied because the experience you submitted lacked independence.  The rule is very clear"

Now when I asked DORA to provide me definition of “Independence” for an accountant working in an entity,

They said me to re-apply and pay the fees…Independent is very subjective, broad and relative, are they seeking absolute independence?

Can anyone believe this..? Which entity will hire you if they cannot exercise control over you or cannot tell what you do…

How can a guy be employed in an entity where he is "Independent" of management?

I asked AICPA regarding this matter; they even could answer me…

Can you even think of that position or title in an entity?

But that is the rule -  even you are a some big hit in private company and work under CPA and Do not have independent client...You will be denied.
