Hello,

Someone told me that when you work public accounting at a big four accounting firm you cinsistently work 60+ hours a week and have no life. All of the people that I have heard get entry level jobs at big 4 firms said they just work until they get their license and then quit because it is so bad.

Is this just the way it is in the area of the country that I live in (nebraska) or is it like this everywhere?

rrrrrpitch, it really depends on the department and managers. I've heard from several people who work at Big4 that they normally work 40-45 hours and 50-55 hours during the season (+5 weeks of vacation). There are other people who told me that 65-80 hours is "normal" for them. They worked during holidays and on weekends.

007CPA, nobody is scared to work hard 8 hours a day. More than that can destroy any family relationships. For single people who don't have anything better to do, working days and night might be a good idea. For anybody who has the life outside of a work place, 8 hours of work are more than enough.

My father and grandfather always told me that working "only" 40 hours per week is a job not a career :)
