CPA is a big examination. Covers four subjects namely Accounting, Auditing, Business Concepts and Regulation (Laws and Tax). So you see, it is more than just accounting. Yes; accounting is the primary element but not the sole.
Anyone, with or without prior knowledge of accounting can think of becoming a CPA. In your case, you have quite a bit of knowledge about accounting so thats not a question. Definitely, you can think of CPA. CPA can be completed in as less as 6-8 months which ofcourse depends on several factors including your eligibility for the examination which I think you might have an issue with. But you can get your credentials evaluated and see if you are eligible.
But at first, you should visit www.aicpa.org, www.nasba.org, www.cpaexam.org and get a good idea about the qualification and its requirements and then you can decide whether u want to do it and whether you want to go ahead.
Hope this helps.
