Hey everyone,

So, I'm trying to decide between the online/cd version or the book version of the ethics exam. I'd like to hear what others have used and whether they thought it was beneficial or if they wish they would have gotten the other version.

I'm thinking that using the online version will make it easy to look things up, but the book version is easier (for me) to read. I don't really like reading long things online.

Any advice would be appreciated!

That's a really good question! A year ago I ordered the CD on a student discount, and dibbled a bit in the course. I found out that the CD presentation was very fancy with role-playing and all that but really doesn't teach you much, so when I was dibbling through exam, I had to go back to 130-page PDF file included in the CD. It was really inconvenient because it's all on the computer screen (imagine reading 100 pages on computer screen). So when this course expired, I ordered a new one but in a book format. I'm just gonna read though it once (probably gonna take about 8-10 hours) and then take the exam. Some people would recommend the CD version because of the CTRL+F function that would allow you to search for the terms but you still have to know the stuff to pass it, plus the method is a bit chaotic. Illinois uses AICPA ethics course and they allow only two tries online...you didn't pass, you have to mail the scores...so you are given the limited amount of tries. Also, a lot of the stuff is the regugitation of REG independency/penalty rules but more in-depth and in quantity than if it were to be tested on CPA exam. In short, once again a lot of zzzz's on this one.

I have not received the book yet but once I receive it in a couple of days, I'll let you know how it works.

Hi Daliacpa,

Thanks so much for your response. A long PDF sounds horrible. Did the find function work to your advantage at all though? I guess that's the only reason that I would get the online version. Have you gotten your book version yet?

going4it,

I have not received the book yet. As soon as I find out how it works, I'll let you know! One thing to keep in mind, when I was ordering the course, the guy at AICPA also recommended to get a book version rather than CD...I was pre-occupied with purchase, and now regret no to ask him what is the reason why he thought so... At that time, I already made a decision to purchase the book version because I personally go as well with online/cd courses as water with oil -- I just find it more efficient to read it through ina paper form and be done with it.
I'll keep you posted.

Hey, I got the book today, pretty thick, but there a lot of appendices....(hopefully I don;t have to read thru all of them). The exam is only 40 questions (I remember my OLD CD version had at least 100 questions...but I'm not sure if that's because it was CD version or an old version).

Let me know of you have any additional questions.
