I was laid off from big 4 recently after I worked for 6 months. When I applied for a new job online, they asked about the reason to leave previous job, I put the "personal reason" at that time as I was not quite sure what should I put in there and later on I forgot to make changes. I really feel uncomfortable to do that and I would like to mention that during the phone interview with HR. Do you think it is a good idea to do that? Please advise!

I would definitely mention this if it comes up.  Just tell the truth.  If you say you left for personal reasons they may wonder if you are a job hopper and will do the same at their company.  I don't think there is any shame in being laid off in this economy.  Again, I would only mention this if it comes up in an interview.

Thanks, nic4747. I did feel really shameful for being laidoff, which is why I did not originally put laidoff in there. If I had stayed with my old company, I would have promoted to a supervisor. I pursed my career in public accounting after I passed CPA exams. Unfortunately, I failed. I also worried about I gave insistent information to the new employer which could have resulted a turndown. I guess being honest is most important than anything in this industry. I should face what I should be faced with.

Be honest, laid off now is much different from laid off three years ago.
