I sat for the REG section of the CPA exam on July 10th, and had a little incident:

There were several instances (3 or 4) during my exam where the computer monitor shut off. This was extremely distracting while I was in the course of taking my exam. The monitor would shut off for several seconds and then would turn back on. I didn’t bother to say anything until the 4th time this occurred when the monitor shut off and did not turn back on. I got out of my seat, left the room and reported the problem to a staff member at the testing center. He quickly came over to my seat and realized the plug for the monitor was not secure, which was the cause of the malfunction. He fixed the problem and I returned to my seat to finish the exam (all the while the clock has been running).

This may sound like a minor issue but it actually was a major distraction. I would estimate that in total, I lost about 5 minutes of testing time because of these interruptions; not to mention the mental disruption it caused. Furthermore, I ended up not being able to finish my exam on time. I used every last second and am very confident I would have scored more points in my final simulation with an additional 5 minutes of time. As you know well, every point counts and could be the difference between passing and failing.

Has anyone ever heard of something like this? And if so, what options do I have (will they let me retest or other consideration?).

Thank you

Look at your NTS for the appropriate contact agency and report this problem immediately.

You have two options.  You must choose before your test is graded, and without knowing whether or not you earned a passing score.

1.  Ask that this test result be thrown out and you be allowed to re-test for free.

2.  Accept the result of this test.
