Good job for all of you that manage a real life and being out of school for a few years.  I just finished my Master's Degree (a week or so ago) and now I have a CPA exam passed and done to boot!  Good luck to all of you who are still going.

Congrats to you all!  I cannot wait to be in this category!

Just out of curiousity (no disrespect meant), nostudyrequired, could you tell your story on how you managed to conquer  the CPA?  A lot of people may learn from your experience (esp. me as I have taken a few exams and failed)

Thanks

No problem. I used Becker exclusively.  I did buy a Wiley book at one point and found that the narrative tone of the book made for painful reading.  My other issue was that I found Peter Olinto to be a grating person, so I stopped watching the DVD's as well.  This meant that all I had were the books and the questions.

The first time I relied pretty heavily on the books.  After I got my feedback reports from NASBA, I looked at the sections that seemed to be my weak areas.  (For what its worth, I did below average on MCQ's and Simulations for all three exams that I failed.  I also did average on the writing section of AUD.  Then I realized that I could write a lot better and get as close to that 10% as possible.  I would suggest really focusing on your writing if you are not getting above averages on your feedback.  One of the things that I think push me over is my stereotypical opening and closing.  A "Thank you for the opportunity to comment on this matter today." sort of thing.  )

Using the book and the Multiple Choice Questions, I hit all areas but made sure to read first the chapters that I did poorly in.  After reading through as much of the material I could stand.  I would do questions, targeting the areas where I did poorly.  One thing that I would recommend is trying to schedule them for the next period and keep studying for it.  It helps to retain the information from one period to the next.

Hope that helps a little bit!

I finished the CPA exam in 2007. For some history, I completed my BBA Accounting degree in 2004; I have 2 children 13 years and 7 years at the time; I worked in an accounting office Full-time. And was taking care of my father...Alot of burden going on.

I studied using Bisk Education materials (Comprehensive books, Software, Audio and Intensive Review to finish it off). I found studying to be challenging, but after I did the diagnostic test and setup my study schedule I stuck to it and was able to complete all sections in 10 months. I did alot of MCQ and plenty of Simulations and had to alternate study habits from late at night to early in the morning...whatever worked to get the studying hours in.

Very very important note...Do practice exams and time your self; MCQ and Sims.

Discipline is very important. I did have a life but kept it to a minimum so that I would not go crazy.

Just keep you dream of completing the exam in front of you at all times and soon you will accomplish it. No one said it would be easy but it can be done! Good luck.
