Hi,

I am a US undergrad student who recently transferred to a
top school in Australia as part of an exchange. However
I now have the opportunity to finish Bachelor of Commerce
(Accounting) degree here.

My question is this,
If I plan to have a career in the US, should I still
finish my degree here in Australia? Because I heard it's
a lot easy to get the CPA license here, then take the
IQEX to transfer back to the states. And this would also
give me an international advantage.

The downside is that I would have to do the honours year
in Aus also (taking an additional year), or else I will
not be able to do any sort of masters program back in the
US.
And I am very worried that I will not be able to get an
internship or a starting positions back in the states
after finishing the degree, since it'll be foreign.

I'm in the middle of my studies, and I really need some
good advice from professionals. So any sort of help
would be much appreciated.

Thank You!!!

"

In recent times, there has been significant questioning as to the fairness of the IQEX rules[citation needed] as applied to Australian Certified Practising Accountants.

Many accuse that the rule of requiring a Bachelor's Degree from the country in which the CPA is a member of limits CPAs who obtained their Bachelor's from countries such as Hong Kong, India, and China from qualifying for IQEX. These people allege that as members of their respective CPA boards, it should not matter where the Bachelor's degree was obtained. A CPA from Australia is simply a CPA from Australia whether or not he did his Bachelor's in India, Hong Kong, or Australia. They allege that there is little justification for such a measure, and it is merely designed to deter them from obtaining a U.S. CPA."

CPA Australia is the inferior accounting designation, The Australian CA is 10x harder than the CPA US.

I'm curious as to what you're basing this on.  It may be true, but I have a hard time believing that any country has more complicated rules to learn than US GAAP.  >.>
