If I register and pass the CPA exam in california, then end up finding a job in new york, can I still be a CPA after all requirements are met?  Basically, I take a pass the exam in California, pay all fees, but don't meet the other requirements, but meet the work requirements in another state, do I just re-apply?  I know if you pass the exams in 18 monthsm, then you for the rest of your life you will never have to take them again.

Worst case scenario, I have to pay more in fees?

Take a look at this:
http://www.cpazone.com/2010/03/cpa-mobility---mobility-imple mentation-via-aicpanews.html

"the AICPA encourages individuals and or firms to contact the board of accountancy in the state that they intend to practice to determine the applicability of the state’s practice privilege requirements that have been adopted..."

and this...
http://www.aicpa.org/Legislative+Activities+and+State+Licens ing+Issues/Mobility+and+State+Licensing+Issues/Mobility+Impl ementation/New+York+Mobility+Implementation.htm

You should call both BOAs to get the exact requirements for your situation...and make sure you come back here to post what you found out.
