Hi All,

This message is to call for all CA's and CA students from India, who would like to pursue both CPA and CA from here in United States.

I recently spoke with the Secretary of the New York ICAI chapter and enquired about taking the CA examination from US instead of travelling to India or Dubai. She responded that they require a minimum of 20 candidates who are willing to take the examination here to request the New Delhi chapter to conduct CA examinations in the United States. Thus, I strongly urge students who wish to take CA exams from US to contact me so that we can request the New York chapter and see how they take it forward from there.

Also, if there are reasonable number of CA's and CA students who also pursue CPA, we could request the ICAI if they could negotiate with AICPA and NASBA to recognize our Indian CA and Articleship training as a qualification as work-experience and also for the credit hours to take the examination and get the license. We could request for reciprocatory recognition of US- CPA in India. Currently there are only 7 countries that recognize Indian CA qualification. http://www.icai.org/post.html?post_id=2144 If they could negotiate to add USA-CPA as one of the country to recognize Indian CA's, then that would open up more avenues for us as there are more number of Industries that are outsourcing jobs to India. Our dual qualification would be most beneficial in our job opportunities too.

My understanding is that, currently our CA from India is recognized in few states like DE and CO. However, if we do not apply for license from these states within specified number of years, our passed scores might expire and we might need to retake the examination. Ex. In FL the time period for applying for license is 1 year after passing all the 4 papers. Thus if our Chartered Accountancy course is recognized for credit hours for taking examinations in other states too, then we can benefit by our scores not expiring at all. Ex. Georgia scores never expires. If Georgia accepts our Chartered Accountancy scores and experience, then it would be easy for us to sit for examination in GA and transfer the scores to different state to obtain license where the work experience is not required. (I understand that there is no substitute for hard work and thus no short cut to get license without work experience, but for certain candidates, who have visa issues and do not have the work permit to obtain adequate work experience to apply for license, may choose an alternative by this method.) Currently, most of the Indian students choose to apply to CO or IL or DE board as they accept our Chartered Accountancy scores.

So, please let me know if any students or CA's are interested in joining the NY ICAI Chapter and we can go forward from there. You can reach me at ca.ss.cpa@gmail.com. The more is the representation, the easier it would be to push things forward.

Good luck to everyone for their examinations.

Thanks.

What is the use? If you are in US, you should take CPA exams.

Every country has its own recognised qualifications. In India, ICAI is the king but here in US, AICPA rules.

Few of my friends who did CA from India and migrated to UK, faced difficulties in getting proper job and they decided to clear ACCA exams since ACCA is the king in UK.

Yes, you are right that CPA and ACCA are the king in their US and UK respectively. However, if we have CA recognised here, our work experience will also get recognised. So Indian students who complete CPA need not wait long to get their license. They can start applying for license with their work experience (or articleship training) obtained back in India.

Secondly, as the economy is so bad and finding a new job is difficult, a candidate who has just finished all his CPA papers and has a CA from India will have an advantageous position compared to a person who has finished all his CPA papers and who does not have another professional qualification like CA (or where CA is not recognised as a qualification)

Thirdly, for those who are in India if there is a reciprocatory recognition of qualification, there will be a better recognition for CPA's in India too and they have more oppurtunity. For students who are based in India, they need not be put in a position that they cannot apply for licensure without adequate work experience in US.

Hi All,

Thank you for your enquiries through e-mails. I spoke with the ICAI NY Chapter Chairman today, and he told me that we just need the name list of 20 students who are willing to take the examination here in USA. We have about 3 students willing to take examination in USA as of now. So students willing to take Chartered Accountancy Examinations are strongly requested to contact me with their names so that I can follow up with ICAI NY Chapter for opening an examination center here in USA.

Regarding the work experience of CA Articleship training or the work experience under a CA in India, certain states do accept Indian qualifications and they require a Good standing certificate from ICAI NewDelhi. ICAI Delhi does this service free of charge. You can download the good standing certificate application form from the respective state board of Accountancy website and can fill it out and mail it to ICAI Delhi and they will fill up the form and send it back to us.

Georgia applicants can download this form from http://sos.georgia.gov/acrobat/PLB/22%20Form%20for%20Verifyi ng%20Chartered%20Accountant%20Status.pdf

You can contact me at ca.ss.cpa@gmail.com

Thanks.
