Quick history, graduated college in 2000 and have been in a very small public acctg firm since...my hours have been cut drastically and plan on moving on after this tax season and after searching a lot jobs the last few days a majority want you to have a CPA or MST so i have decided to go back and take the exam, last time i took it was back in 2000 & 2001 when it was pencil and paper LOL and u had to take 4 parts in 2 days...

Basically i am very nervous and don't know if i can do it, i went to the yaeger site and put the stuff i need in the cart but hesitate to purchase because i dont know if i can do it and at this point its a lot of money to not pass the exam, for me anyway. Just feeling a lot of pressure...

My plan is take BEC first and only apply for the 1 part since i don't think i will have time to study for 2 parts with tax season a few months away.  I figure if i order the materials soon i can take the exam early Jan before work gets busy and then right after 4/15 get right back to studying, most likely 2 parts the next time around...

From now until when tax season begins i will have 3 days a week plus weekends to study, due to my hours being cut....

Good, bad or indifferent comments are all welcome...

I finished my accounting degree in 1994, and for a variety of reasons I won't entertain you with, did not sit for the CPA exam.  I passed all four sections of the exam the first time using Yaeger homestudy review program in a relatively period of time - I took an exam every four weeks after front end studying for the biggest section, FAR.  Good luck to you.  It worked for me :)

I would suggest if you go thru with this to get a cheap Wiley book as well off Ebay for like 30 bucks, that will give you a head start.  I got mine off ebay for 30 and that is what I am using for FAR

Yaeger was definitely helpful for REG. I used the Wiley software questions that came with the book and I used Gleim questtions ($55 for MCQs download). The Wiley software gives simulations to practice which reinforce the concepts and prepare you quite well for the actual exam.

It doesn't matter which study material you use just the amount of time you put into it. I went to the community college library to surround myself with others who were studying like me. I've been out of school for 16 years and I'm on my last section. It's stressful, exhausting and takes boat loads of time.

My advice is to concentrate on 1 exam at a time and don't let too much time pass between exam dates. The 18 month window creeps up on you pretty quickly. Go for it!
