I had a partner from a firm I applied to shoot me an email back and ask me a few questions.
1.) He wanted to know why I was interested in working in New Orleans?
Truth be told, I'm not, but it is only 3 hours from home so I thought why not send in an application. Can someone give me a BS answer?
2.) Wanted to know if I had a contract/reference at my former employer.
I got let go from my last job, but he probably drew this conclusion since my work history there only spans 6 months. I'm 90% sure my former employers HR policy is on former employee inquiries that they only tell them that yes, I worked there, my position and the beginning and ending date of employment.
Do I tell him that, or just say sure here is the office phone number and my senior manager's name? Do I just tell him the policy, explain over email I got let go because of the economy, I wasnt the only one let go, but offer the phone number anyway?
I wasn't really let go on bad terms, they told me I was being let go because of declining business.
I would appreciate advice from ANYONE WHO CAN HELP! Thanks!

IF the office in New ORleans if large, tell them that their office offers a lot of opportunities in terms of professional and personal growth, an excellent set of clients with sophisticated transactions.
As for the reference, just give him the name and the number. I would not explain anything because it may sound defensive. The less info you volunteer, the better, imo

Wow, I love that soc09. Now I just need to figure out how to word that perfectly. The professional growth and opportunity to observe and work on sophisticated transactions is amazing.
Anyone else got anything to add? I like what I am hearing.
EDIT: He asked how big the office was that I used to work at, do I say 25 people or do I say around 4 million in revenue? I thought it was a weird question.

Update: soc09 thanks for the advice, it got me an interview.
I feel like the more you BS the closer you get to a job. However, I guess one would say you aren't BS'ing, you're simply saying what they want to hear.
