In my understanding, the AICPA says that they don't "curve" the exam in the sense that everybody has to meet the predetermined criteria in order to pass the exam. However, if all the candidates do terribly in certain areas, they will consider revising their predetermined criteria. In summary, what I am trying to say is that the average level of intelligence of test-takers in your window is not supposed to affect your performance, but it is kind of hard for me to understand how the pass rates for the exam stay around 50% each time if they don't compare the candidates' performances in the same testing window...

AUD - 7/2010
FAR - 8/2010
BEC - 8/2010
REG - 10/2010

passfirsttime: I left one of my sim's on FAR almost completely blank too!  And I left both of the written communications blank.  I was feeling horrible about this, but seeing that you were able to pass with such a high score after doing the same makes me feel a little more confident!  Two more days and I should know... fingers crossed tight!

@scot5818- did you pass?

I took my AUD yesterday (first section, first attempt), left one of the communications blank (and don't think I did so well on the other parts of the sims either). I heard/read somewhere that only one of the sims is actually graded. Anyone has any take on this?

Praying that luck was and is going to be on my side!

Many candidates are intrigued by how the CPA Exam grading is done. Here is my understanding of the CPA exam scoring mechanism.

A Score Of 75 Does Not Mean 75% Correct

First of all, you should know that the score you get is not equal to the percentage of correct answers in the exam. For example, if you get a 75, it does NOT mean that you get 75% correct.

Instead, your score is essentially based on a percentile, and the examiners utilize a fancy system to calculate all these. Here is a summary of how it works in layman terms:
