If all goes according to plan, I will have passed all exam sections by the end of Jan 2010.

My plan is to start looking for a job at that time. I already have about 2 years experience, so have met the experience requirement, have received the signed affidavit from my previous employer, education requirements (150 hours) are done, etc.

As such, on my resume, am I allowed to refer to myself as a CPA in the header, even though my application will be processing for a couple to three months?

Or must I refrain and merely state that I have passed all sections, sent application out, and am pending certification?

You can call yourself a CPA when your state licensing board starts calling you a CPA.

I think you can call yourself a CPA as soon as you get your license/registration # and have paid all required fees to put you in "active status".

I just got my license # yesterday and paid the license fee. I have not received the physical license yet though. To ere on the side of caution, I would probably wait until you actually have it in your hands though so that if anybody questions your status, you'll be able to show them legal proof.

I'd use the "pending" qualification until you actually have your license. Potential employers can easily look up your CPA license information online (in my state anyway), so you should be very up-front with your CPA status while applying for jobs.

UPDATE: I don't have the physical license certificate yet, but now you can look up my name online and it says "Active CPA".

May I ask you what state are you from? and how long it has taken to get the approval since your application?
