Hi,

I am about to apply for MACC as an international student (Male, 26yrs).I have done MBA majors in Finance (CGPA 3.26) from A second tier Uni from my home country and BS Computer Systems Engineering.
I studied "Intro to Fin Acct" and "Cost & Mgmt Acc" with A & A+ grades.

I have some queries which i hope someone will be able to answer.

1- Should I target Top ranked schools or second-third tier accredited schools will be good enough to land me interviews at firms and corporations?

2- Job outlook and acceptability of International student after MACC ?

3- Do firms, apart from top 4, hire international students?

4- I will be around 28 yrs , when done with MAcc. Do age will be a negative point specially when i am an international student?

5- Any suggestion regarding Which Accounting Programs to apply to.

Thanks.

They won't even hire people who are citizens.

1. The school in the end doesn't matter too much in the end, it's more dependent on the area. Firms tend to hire geographically so say you want to work in Chicago. Firms in Chicago tend to target midwest schools (Illinois, Indiana, Notre Dame, etc.). IMO, decide where you eventually want to live and then pick from the schools the firms in that are recruit from.

2. Job outlook at the moment isn't bleak, but accounting firms for the next 1-2 years will be VERY selective in their candidates. Those who intern with the firm always have priority and due to the job crisis, a majority of those interns are accepting those starting positions. Firms, at least from my knowledge, do not differentiate whether you are an international student or not, but i'd say you might have a better chance with firms located in bigger cities with more diverse staff.

3. Yes, assuming you get your masters in the US.

4. Age doesn't really matter, as long as you interview well and the interviewer can say, "I like this person and I'm okay working with this person for 60 hours a week."

5. See #1, narrow your destinations first, then break it down from there.

As long as the school is AACSB accredited, I don't think you can go wrong with any school.
