Here's a quick breakdown of the general stereotypes from my university:

PwC: usually attracted the most pompous students out of the Big 4, especially the
collar-popping polo variety. They usually felt some higher sense of worth but were
nothing more than marginally intelligent who tried to hide their laughable GMAT scores
with their physical appearance or connections. Don't get me wrong, they are probably
decent accountants but they certainly didn't belong in the halls of academia or in the
pursuit of intellectual studies.
E&Y: they didn't seem to recruit as prominently on our campus but they seemed
alright in my limited encounters with them. Didn't see much discrimination from them as
a previous poster mentioned, as I remember them hiring a couple of less attractive
females as auditors.
Deloitte: there were always a lot of them but it was hard to place an accurate
description to the firm in general. Seemed like a decent place to work with decent
people. Of the four I'd say Deloitte had the best overall reputation after taking all the
associated positives and negatives into account.
KPMG: usually had slightly lower hiring standards than the other firms, at least
for undergraduate. They seemed to have a monopoly on our MAcc students, hiring
somewhere between 50-60% of the graduates in any given year. Showed up to
recruiting events with a legion of recent hires to talk to fellow students, even more than
the other firms. Gave a slightly less professional aura than some of the others but they
seemed to be more relaxed and have more fun. Seemed to hire a larger number of 'ditzy'
females.

My take from University Recruiting (where 75% of all Masters goes Big 4 NATIONWIDE):

Deloitte and PWC snap up most people, Deloitte mostly through interns and PWC mostly through the fall process.

EY is third in hiring people, but they are really friendly.

KPMG hired very few this year from my school.

Depending on where you want to work.  East is primarly Deloitte.  West is more PWC
