Folks,
I am a resident of Florida and I am interested in obtaining
my CPA Certification in Iowa. I hope someone out there can help me with the following questions:
a) I'm not a resident of Iowa and I don't plan to move to Iowa.
It just seems that Iowa's CPA licensure requirements are a little bit
easier for me to fulfill given my specific education and experience. Is that a problem? In general, is it a problem to obtain a license from a state different from your own?b) Do you think my EDUCATION (below) is enough to sit for the exam?
- Baccalaureate
degree in Civil Engineering from the Antioquia Engineering School in
Colombia (5 years of study, including 2 elementary accounting classes.)
- MBA
from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (2 years. Included two Accounting classes, and several finance classes.)
- 30
non-introductory semester hours of accounting
at Nova Southeastern
University's Master of Accounting program. Nova is based in Florida.
**I don't intend to finish the Masters degree itself, just get enough
hours under my belt to sit for the exam.** The classes I've taken are:
- 3 semester-hours in Cost Accounting
- 9 semester-hours in Intermediate Accounting
(levels I, II and III)
- 3 semester-hours in Advanced Accounting
- 3 semester-hours in Auditing
- 3 semester-hours in International Accounting
- 6 semester-hours in Taxation
c) Do you think my EXPERIENCE (below) is enough to sit for the exam?- 6 years employed in industry, providing
services involving accounting, management advisory, corporate
financial forecasting and budgeting, financial advisory and consulting
skills.
- Positions held: Director Financial Planning and
Analysis, VP Finance, CFO
- Experience can be verified by a Florida
CPA who has not been my supervisor, but who can attest that my
experience encompasses the positions mentioned above.
Thanks a lot! Any suggestions or guidance--before I start down the wrong path--are greatly appreciated.
