I was curious if anyone has heard of anyone beind provisionally denied to sit for the CPA exam.  I started studying rigorously mid-December, about the exact time I graduated.  I just finished my 8 weeks of FAR today and had full intentions of taking FAR on 2/15.  Well, I was aware of the long application process so I got everything, including my transcripts in on time, but about mid January I received a letter saying I was provisionally denied to sit for the CPA exam due to lack of moral character.

Yes, I have made some mistakes in my day, but I know people with expunged DUI that didn't disclose the info and had no issues.  Well, since I wanted to be on the safe side I disclosed 4 summary offenses (not even misdemeanors in PA) and was denied to sit for the exam.  Has this happened to anyone?!?!

Anyways, I am not really worried about it because I have the opportunity to present myself in front of the state board in April and basically prove I am a worthy candidate.  I am planning on starting to study AUD and BEC simultaneously tomorrow for the next 10 weeks and taking all three exams in May.  Anyone have any situations for study tactics, I know FAR really well, but do not want to forget the info.

The volume of summary offenses is why you were denied.  A lot of people will eventually get a parking ticket or speeding ticket which is usually a summary offense, but 4 offenses is probably viewed by your state as too many (which is why they denied you).  Apparently your state CPA board views you as lacking moral character and potentially as a criminal.  You most likely will need a lawyer to help clear your record.  Prepare for a long drawn out battle.

when i applied for to sit for exam i didnt fill in the criminal conviction box. They let me sit. They also called me to see what it was.  I told them felony drug conviction from the 1980's. They told me if had nothing to do with the line of work( not embezzleling/ fraud   etc..) and was a long long time ago it shouldnt effect my licensing as long as I had done nothing wrong subsequently and had showed good moral character/good references. NYS is a fairly liberal state.

I also got my accounting degree after conviction and have a 15 yr work history in acct

you are better off committing crime b4 licensing because after it they will revoke it and review it years later(depending on crime)
