Hi,

I am planning to appear for CPA in July/ august and wanted help on where and how to register...

I have done my B.Com and CA and also have done MBA in finance from India...i am confused about which state i should apply from since i understand Colorado has stopped recognizing Indian CAs..

Can someone pls guide on which state i should apply from now? Is New York or Pennsylvania a good option? what wud i need to do to apply?

Hello Hemali,
Do you plan to practice in the US?
If not, apply to the state of Alaska (fairly quick turn around time) besides you will need only 120 credits to get your NTS and they accept credit evaluation from facsusa.
Another advantage to apply through Alaska is that your scores will never expire so say few years do the line you find yourself wanting to practice you can transfer your scores and apply for licensing.
Some states will expire your scores.
If you plan to practice accounting please apply to the state you want to practice in.

Alaska sounds good...m currently not planning to practice..but shud i decide to do so, which other state would be a good option? I am planning to settle in Pennsylvania or New York...is it a good place to register for indian CAs? kindly advice.

Hi Hemali,
I did not know if you are planning to just come to the US for your CPA exam. First things first get your credentials evaluated chose one state and stick with it, in the future if you want you can get a license from any other state.
Are you currently working ? most states want at least 1 years expereince to get a license. But you main objective right now should be to get your Notice To Schedule (NTS).
As you have a MBA you should the required 150 hrs, so its upto you to decide if you want to go with NY or PA.

Hi Hemali

Given your educational background, I wouldn't recommend Alaska, there are much more suitable states for you to write for.
