Hello everybody,

In some states such as california I noticed that thy don't require a
accounting degree to sit for the exam and that all you need is 24
business and accounting credits.

With that being said one with a non related degree such as biology
can take those required courses at a community college to sit for the
exam. Now after passing the CPA would employers care if someone
doesn't have a accounting related degree but has passed the exam?

I think in a healthy economy, they wouldn't care. In a job
market like this, they can use not having the degree to
weed people out. I don't have an accounting degree and have
passed the exam. If I don't find something eventually, I'm
going to go back for a Macc so that I have the degree and
to get better access to employers.
But anyways, I think that the overall health of the job
market is much more important than whether or not you have
the degree. Tons of people who have a Macc and have passed
the exam are also struggling to find jobs now. I'm thinking
that by time I finished a Macc (spring 2012), the market
will have turned around a lot, or at least hopefully.

Thanks for the reply Kfan! Good to see others that are on
the same boat as me.

I just passed a section of the exam and my professors
recommended me to take the CPA instead of getting a Macc.
Hopefully by the time I finish the exam the economy will be
better.

Have you applied for a Macc program yet?

No, I wouldn't apply until the fall. Hopefully I will have found something by then and won't need to apply.
