I was recently offered a position at a Big 4 as a first
year associate. I am currently a first year associate at a
well known regional/2nd tier firm. What advice would you
give on accepting this offer and potentially losing a year
of experience?

Do it. The general rule is essentially this: for every year you spend at the Big 4, it equates to roughly 1.5 to 3 years in a corporate or public accounting position elsewhere.

Plus, if you're going for private after a few years of Big 4, brand recognition (having PwC, E&Y, Deloitte, KPMG on your resume) is key.

You are really lucky. Did you go through on campus recruiting or some other way? Is it a big office?

If I were you, I wouldn't even think about it and jump on the offer. Big 4 carries much more weight than any of the mid tier firms. One year of experience is nothing to lose at a mid tier firm. If you ever go private, guess which name is going to put your resume at the top of the file?

Since topic is kind of on target I would like advice as
well. Basically on what approaches/methods should be
utilized to get an interview with Big-4 once already
working regional?

A little about me is West Coast, 2 years experience,
completed CPA exam and still working in public
accounting. My career is fine here and even got raise
last year, but have wanted to work for Big-4 since early
college.

Any information such as career fairs on West Coast, or
contacts in NYC/SF are appreciated. Just send an e-mail.

Think i've done all the e-mailing I can do so will have
to start cold calling next week and asking friends.
