Hi everyone ! I had a quick question. My NTS expires April 14th. My FAR exam is scheduled for April 13th. However due to some serious family circumstances, I didn't get a chance to study much of FAR (I have the 2009 Becker textbook and 2009 Yaeger DVDs) and am pretty much just starting to study it today onwards.

Since this gives me just 2 weeks:

1. Is it realistic to assume I can finish studying by then? I'm currently on leave till April 14th.
2. I am applying for the NTS for BEC, so it would give me a few weeks to study up for it. Would you suggest focussing on BEC now directly?

I'm very nervous about appearing for the exam anyway without studying, since I'm not sure how a really abysymal score (which I'm sure to get if I'm unable to finish studying by then) impacts anything. I might probably have to skip this scheduled FAR exam.

Any advise/suggestions?

I guess I'm not surprised at no replies to my previous one, since it does sound a bit lame. :) But I'm trying one last time anyway, just in case I get any other opinions.

Question: Is it inadvisable to appear for the FAR exam (since the fees have been paid), without adequate preparation and do poor scores cause a problem for subsequent NTS applications?

Background: I'm recovering from cancer, major back surgery and a death in my family recently. Last weekend onwards was the first time in AGES that I am finally painfree for the most part and in remission. I still have doctor appointments this week for followups. With the above and two kids and not having studied in over a decade, this exam sounds a bit overwhelming right now. My husband is being extremely insistent that I should appear for the FAR exam next Tuesday since I have already paid for it and it would be money wasted and I have nothing to lose by appearing for it unprepared. But I am terrified of appearing for an exam with barely any preparation, since I've never done that before. I don't know anyone I can ask this to and expect an objective response and I don't want to give up simply because of my health because I do want to fight this too and finish it. I just don't know if it is a bad idea to give the exam just yet just to save the money we paid.

I took the FAR exam a year ago w/out studying and failed miserably. Only took it because my NTS was up and thought I at least could see what was on the exam. After all, I did pay for it.

However, if you have a BEC exam coming up this window as well I wouldn't worry yourself w/ FAR and concentrate fully on BEC. Better to pass one exam this window, than none. It will definitely give you some confidence getting past one.

Another one who took FAR without studying and had a pretty bad score. I've also let an NTS expire because I hadn't studied either. I'm kind of glad I took the exam, just to see what it was like. I know every time, it's a little bit different, but I saw that it was a manageable exam...IF YOU STUDY! Which I didn't.

Focus your study on the one you have the time to study for and can pass (I don't think you can pass FAR without studying...I have 6 weeks in with 3 to go and wish I still had another week or two.) BEC will require a lot of studying as well, but there's not as much material so if you are squeezed for time, I would focus on BEC and not FAR. I don't think doing poorly on an exam will ding you, but you just have to keep plugging away at it.

If I skip the FAR exam and focus on BEC for this window and I'm counted as a 'no-show' on the FAR exam, does that create a problem when I apply for the FAR NTS for the next window? I'm leaning towards focussing on BEC now but don't want to mess up my chances for reapplying for FAR.

Kudos to both of you for going ahead and taking the test anyway. I'm not sure I have the courage to do that, but if I absolutely need to, to prevent messing the next NTS, I will have to, but I really don't want to waste time on something I know I won't clear.
