Hello everybody,
For those of you who have viewed the yaeger homestudy dvd's, Phil  Yaeger has mentioned several times that we should never skip a multiple choice question and come back to it later on. He said that it's better to take a guess, and the computer keeps track of which questions we are guessing on and which ones we actually worked on?

This is making me anxious, because my strategy on the BEC exam was the opposite. Since my exam was mostly quantitative in nature, i skipped the questions that required extensive calculations, ( i left them blank and didn't pick an answer) and i attempted to answer the ones that i was completely sure of.

After i answered the one's i was certain about, i came back to the one's that i didn't answer. (left blank) and i solved them. I felt like doing this helped me save time.

Could you please let me know if the computer factors this into account? I know this is a weird query, but it never occured to me that the strategy i employed, could actually weigh against me, even though i might have actually solved for the correct answer?

Please help! thank you

I followed Phils advice on FAR and answered every question and marked the ones where I absolutely was not sure.  I WATCHED THE CLOCK the entire time and when the testlet was complete I reviewed the marked ones for the remaining amount of time I had allowed in the testlet

I think it was 50 minutes for each testlet he said, so if i finished the testlet in 47 minutes, I spent 3 minutes reviewing my guesses and then closed it out..

you do ALWAYS have 25% chance of getting it correct if you have to guess.. right.

that clock was right on me in the exam, just use your time carefully, finished with 7 seconds left.

I think the reason to go ahead and guess is to make sure you don't leave any blank due to running out of time or an oversight...especially on the FAR.  I'm not sure how the system knows whether you guess or not.

Except for BEC, the testlets are adaptive.  Blank answers have a negative impact on the level of difficulty for the next testlet.  If you narrow it down and guess you have a chance of guessing correctly.  I don't know about everyone else, but I had plenty of time to go back and review questions for BEC.  Wish I had had some of that extra time for FAR.

I agree with Joe, clock management is crucial.  When my 50 minutes was up, it was up and I moved on.  It's tough to do.  I tried to leave a couple minutes to review the questions I had checked.

Like everybody else said, watch your time closely.  My 2nd testlet was sooo hard and I spent at least an 1.5 hrs on it alone.  I barely finished the test with 2 seconds to spare!!
