As far as a MAcc program goes, we have a choice of tax or information system auditing and control. or the general track of accounting/auditing. just wondering if tax has been faded out to outsourcing and if big 4 is looking for audit over tax.

thank you for any direction. just very confused due to current economic times.

I'm not sure about other Big Four, but my firm (PwC) scaled back their tax
interns (and therefore new hires) in my office just as much as audit did.
Now, tax is making a big come back and we're hiring like crazy. Do what you
want to do, not what you think big four wants. Getting a job in Big Four is
incredibly hard. You don't want to pursue a degree when there's a chance
you may not work for the big four.

I think it depends on the location. Down here in Orlando though, it seems that the Big 4 are much more focused on hiring auditors than tax professionals. I can't say that for certain because I don't work for the Big 4, but at recruiting events they'll have, say, 10 auditing associates and only one or two tax associates. What's worse is that all of the Big 4 Orlando offices (with maybe a slight exception of KPMG) outsourced all their tax services to Tampa, making us UCF students have to compete with the USF students.

Hi JDnowwhat,

I recently passed all the CPA sections. I'm based in Bay Area and am interested in having a career in 'taxation'. You mentioned that your firm 'PWC' is hiring. Do you have any idea whether or not they are hiring in the bay area ?

My email address is:  masoomasaif@yahoo.com

Appreciate your help.
