My name is Renu and I have US citizenship. I live in Georgia and applying thru the same state board of accountancy. I have done M.Com from India. I evaluated my degree from FACSUSA (One of the approved evaluators for GA Board of Accountancy). It says that I have completed more than 150 sem. hrs. and at least 20 sem. hrs. in accounting subjects above the elementary level. After receiving this evaluation I sent my application and 2 sections (AUD and REG) exam fees to the GA board. Recently I received a letter from them that my application is being processed and it will take upto 6 weeks time to complete. Now my question is how I would know in advance that I will definitely be eligible for the exam so that I can buy review materials. I am reluctant to spend that much money for the materials until I get their approval and at the same time I really want to study ahead so that I can complete these sections in 6 months NTS validity  period. I am a stay-at-home mom and taking care of 2 kids with full household responsibilities. I would appreciate your suggestion.

Hello Renu, I am a stay-at-home mom with a part-time job
at home and I have a 1 year-old son as well. I am an
immigrant from the Philippines. I could only start
studying and be able to concentrate after I put my son to
bed at night and that usually would be 11pm. But in
reality I start around 12 midnight because I have to
pick-up toys, check my emails, facebook(only
socialization I have while studying), drink my coffee &
eat some snack. I finish around 4-5am depending on my
energy level. There are times that I will go to bed
around 11 am the next day because I got so caught up in
doing my note cards until 7am and then I would try to
cook breakfast for my husband and spend time with him
before he leaves for work. When the baby naps, that would
be the time that I could sleep also. My sleep hours
averages around 5-6 hours and a 2-hour nap during the
day with the baby.

For REG, FAR & BEC, I used Yaeger Homestudy. Their videos
are in DVD format so you can watch or listen to the
lectures as much as you like. They do not expire so you
can buy 1 section at a time and start studying for REG
even if you have not been approved yet. For AUD, I have
used Yaeger as well but the instructor always put me to
sleep after 30 minutes of listening to him so I spent
another $600 and switch to Roger's online course. The
online videos will expire in 9 months from the date of
purchase. Roger has a different way of teaching that will
motivate you to memorize a lot of terms which will help
on the exam.

And about house chores, it can wait. You will always have
a messy house when you have little kids around. Don't
forget to eat lots of healthy foods and drink supplements
to compensate for your lack of sleep so you do not get
sick. I have gain weight studying and obsessing about
passing the CPA. But I'd rather be a little bit fat than
get sick. I can work out when I pass all of the sections.

Thanks a lot for your valuable suggestion. Now I am getting more curious to know about you. Well, did u give any exam and how was it? My routine is very hectic and I have one special need kid too. I am planning to take REG first if they approve me.

Please keep me posted.

I already passed FAR & REG. I am just waiting for my
result on AUD & BEC. I started studying last April 2009
for FAR when I was 5 months pregnant and stopped after 2
months. I gave birth August 5 and started studying again
around 3rd week of September. I took my test November 17
and received my passing score after a month. I took REG
next last May and I failed the first time because I got
lazy and I thought I could pass it without studying much
on Business Law. I reapplied the next day after I
received my failing score and took it again last August
31. I passed and started studying for AUD middle of
September and took it last October 20. I took BEC 4 days
ago.
